Nikolai Terteryan, born on June 19, 2001, in Yerevan, is a prominent Danish amateur boxer of Armenian descent who has gained significant recognition in the boxing world. He won gold at the European Games in Krakow in 2023, securing a spot at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Nikolai has achieved impressive victories, including gold at the Strandja Tournament in 2022, the U22 European Championships in 2022, and the European Games in 2023.
Nikolai is the first Danish amateur boxer since Dennis Ceylan in 2012 to qualify for the Olympics. His Olympic qualification came after a quarterfinal victory at the 2023 European Games against Albanian boxer Alban Beqiri.
Nikolai Terteryan is the son of the late Armenian national team boxer Tigran Terteryan, who moved to Denmark in 1996 with the hope of qualifying for the Olympics. Nikolai and his three brothers, including his twin brother Sebastian, have all represented Denmark in boxing at various international tournaments.
His twin brother Sebastian has played a crucial role in Nikolai’s career by choosing to change weight classes to avoid competing against Nikolai and to give him the chance for Olympic qualification.
